How to score highly on Read and Complete questions

Read and Complete is very similar to Fill in the Blanks. Both questions test your vocabulary. More precisely, they test your vocab knowledge in context. Meaning, you have to understand the rest of the sentence around an incomplete word in order to figure out the answer. To improve at Read and Complete and Fill in the Blanks, you have to get better at understanding that context.

An easy trick for Read and Complete is to look for reused words. Duolingo likes to use the same words multiple times in Read and Complete questions. You will see that often in the examples below. When an incomplete word appears as a complete word elsewhere in the passage, it's much easier to get the correct answer!

Another key tip for Read and Complete (and Fill in the Blanks) is to make sure that your answer makes sense. So many students just type in the first word that they can think of that fits. But you have to check that the word you entered actually makes sense in the passage, not just that it fits! I explain more in this mini lesson:
